Top 4 US presidential candidates oppose TPPA. It may not be a ‘done deal’ after all
Having travelled through 4 states in the last 10 days- a mixture of liberal and conservative strongholds- in the USA, TPPA has become one of the many issues I have brought up with CSO leaders, government officials at all levels, taxi drivers, and average citizens of the US I meet in restaurants, parks and bars. With all top 4 possible US presidential candidates opposing TPPA, it may not be a ‘done deal’ after all. Voices of the American people have successfully swayed the opinion of the political elites in the US on TPPA. Call it reactive opportunism, call it unprincipled, call it Democracy or anything at all; the voice of the people has a voice and it has been heard. It’s simple. It’ll be bad for workers, bad for the people, bad for governments both in Malaysia and the USA; and it’ll only be good for Government officials in cahoots with special interest groups, lobbyists, and large monstrous corporations hell bent on global domination. What is interesting however, I can testify that the sound on the ground that is against TPPA is no where near as loud and as prominent as it is in Malaysia. Yet, the BN government is still insistent upon propping the illusion and lie that it’d be good for the people. More hard evidence, that under the UMNO BN rule, Malaysia is being mutated into an electoral autocracy. It doesn’t mean we stop making noise. It means we shout louder, and scream with more vigour. Although the voices of Malaysian citizens will not be heard by the Malaysian government; but rest assured that our voices as citizens of the Global Society, will be heard by our brothers and sisters world wide. I call for not only Malaysians, but also the people of all signatory nations ie Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and also the USA to keep up the voices of opposition. And trust me, no regime can sustainably combat the power and influence of the many, the Global society united in fighting oppression, corruption and crony capitalism by the few.
